Spring allergy season is here, and because these symptoms return every year, it is crucial to understand the causes and take early prevention actions. At our clinic, we focus not only on treatments that relieve symptoms but ways to prevent and improve your overall health.
Spring allergies, also known as pollen allergies, are a type of allergic reaction. One way to understand the mechanism of how allergies develop is through the Overflow Model, also called the Bucket Theory. Imagine your body as a bucket, allergens such as pollen, house dust, dairy products, animal fats, and other triggers are like water filling the bucket. As long as the water level stays below the rims, no symptoms will appear.
However, once the bucket starts overflowing, allergic symptoms begin to show. Based on this model, we will introduce three ways to prevent or reduce allergy reactions.
The first method is to avoid adding too much water to the bucket, meaning reducing allergen intake. During pollen season, we suggest changing clothes immediately after returning home, washing your hands and face, gargling and if possible, showering to wash off pollen from hair and body. Since allergic reactions are the body’s response to overload, avoiding foods that commonly trigger inflammation is also important. We recommend limiting sugar, dairy, refined carbohydrates (such as white flour products like pasta and udon), processed foods, fried foods, caffeine, and alcohol. Many patients notice significant improvements by reducing gluten intake.
The second method is to remove water from the bucket, or in other words, increase your body’s metabolism. Regular exercise helps improve blood circulation and nerve system function. Make it a habit to engage in activities or exercises that raise your heart rate and light sweating. Supporting the body’s natural detoxification process can also help reduce the total allergen load.
The third method is to increase the size of the bucket, which means improving your immune system and increasing your tolerance to allergens. Although physical growth stops in adulthood, immune capacity growth can still be strengthened. This requires healthy life habits, including proper Diet, Rest, Exercise, Alignment (posture), and Mental stress management – what we call The DREAM health approach. Our chiropractic care is designed to support this DREAM healthy lifestyle.
Our chiropractic treatment focuses on spinal alignment to improve blood flow and nervous system communication. This helps enhance metabolism and the body’s natural detoxification ability, making it less likely for allergy symptoms to occur even when exposed to allergens.
We are offering "a seasonal allergy supplement program" for a limited time.
This includes two basic supplements plus one additional supplement selected based on individual symptoms, for a total of three supplements working together to help reduce allergic reactions. Because these are supplements rather than over-the-counter medications, they are less likely to cause side effects such as drowsiness. The capsules are small and easy for children to take, making them a popular opinion every year.
While supplements and chiropractic care are very effective for pollen and seasonal allergies, lasting improvements take time. That is why combining lifestyle improvements with chiropractic treatment and supplements are highly recommended. Let’s enjoy Atlanta’s short spring season comfortably and healthfully.
Supplements are available to everyone, including those who are not currently chiropractic patients. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested.
