Happy New Year! I hope you all had an amazing holiday, and we appreciate your continued support at our Clinic. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to serving all and hope to do achieve more this new year.
This month’s blog article theme will be about hip, lower back pain and its effects after the Stretching Release Exercise we released at our clinic this past year.
This Stretching Release Exercise is done by our Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, Hikari Taguchi—along with doctor supervision.
Lower back pain is very common in our world today, as more than 80% of people state they have experienced it at least once in their lifetime. I guess we can say it’s the consequence of us humans adopting to a bipedal stance instead of being quadruped like most mammals. While many people suffer from lower back pain, only about 15% have an actual diagnosis such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, nerve disorders, cancer, or internal organ issues. The remaining 85% of lower back pains are termed “nonspecific low back pain” (NSLBP) where the cause cannot be pinpointed and there is no specific medical or surgical treatment. Hospitals usually prescribe pain relievers for symptomatic reliefs and be done with it.
Most patients visiting our clinic for lower back pain fall into the category of "non-specific lower back pain." Our Chiropractic treatment and Stretch Release Exercise (SR) are highly effective for this 85% with unidentified causes. The challenge in identifying the cause lies in the fact that multiple symptoms overlap, making it difficult to pinpoint a specific issue. For example, if the right shoulder and knee have limited mobility due to muscle tightness, it can lead to a misalignment of the spine, resulting in lower back pain. A commonality among lower back pain patients is stiffness and inflexibility.
Stiffness can be of two types: low flexibility in the body and inherent muscle stiffness. Stretch Release (SR) is effective for both types of stiffness. While self-stretching is possible, individuals often unconsciously limit the intensity, leading to less effective stretching. Moreover, attempting strenuous stretches without proper guidance can cause inflammation in muscles and tendons. Determining which muscles are tight, the range of motion, and the overall flexibility is challenging for individuals.
A thorough examination by a chiropractic doctor can reveal areas of stiffness and strain contributing to lower back pain. Based on this examination, a personalized stretching routine can be created under the supervision of a doctor, ensuring a safe and effective stretching exercise session. Unlike stretching studios without a doctor's consultation, our clinic provides a secure and effective stretching exercise that addresses the root cause of lower back pain.
Many patients have experienced dramatic improvement in chronic lower back pain after a few sessions of SR. Additionally, we offer "exercise guidance," including instructions and videos for at home stretches and strength training tailored to each patient's symptoms. This makes our approach suitable not only for those with chronic lower back pain but also for those looking to prevent its recurrence and achieve a flexible and pain-free body.
The first session of our Stretch Release Program is offered at 50% off. If interested or have any questions, let the front desk know!
